Daffodil Day

On Friday, 23rd August we celebrated Daffodil Day. This day is very special to me in that it is a major fundraising day for the Cancer Foundation to raise money for research into a cure for cancer. I lost my darling Dad to this terrible disease many years ago and I’m always willing to support any fundraising event for this great cause. Every bunch of daffodils that are sold in the supermarkets help to boost the total of funds raised. This always signals to me that spring really is just around the corner. My little $6 bunch were just so pretty I just had to share them with you.

We also had a wonderful birthday celebration on the weekend. Mr FH celebrated his 60th birthday. We had invited 38 close family and friends to help us celebrate in a private box at the city races. We had the most wonderful day. Guests arrived at midday and were served entree, main course and desserts and we finished at 5.30. Such a great time was had by all. Somehow I completely forgot to take photos of the beautiful food!!!

This is the view from our room. It was the most beautiful day…..the sun was shining and just a gentle breeze. As usual with our family, there is always some sort of drama. Our son-in-law was feeling unwell on Friday night but thought he was ok on Saturday morning but deteriorated as the day went on. Our daughter ended up having to take him to hospital at 10.00pm and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. No wonder he was feeling so unwell.
It is just starting to rain – a great finish to a lovely weekend.

Spring is in the air!!

Spring is on it’s way!!! Yay!!!  I just love autumn and spring so much. The days are now getting a little longer and not quite so cold. We have received some beautiful rains so the farm is looking lovely and green and the crops are doing well. Life on the farm is easy when it rains!!!! As I was walking through the family room yesterday morning I happened to look over towards the bookshelf and saw the glorious rays of the morning sun shining through.  I just had to take some quick photos….so quick in fact that I didn’t have time to do a quick dust but really, who cares? I just wanted to catch the rays at that moment.

Today I went for a long walk. I have a new app on my phone which records my distance, number of steps etc and I am hooked on it!! Lucky something has me hooked on walking. I walked 7.5kms around some of our canola crop which is such a vibrant yellow at the moment.
More walking tomorrow after work. I just can’t imagine at the moment how I can possibly put on a bathing suit to swim with my grandies so I must do something!!
Have a lovely week,
Suzy

Tea for me!!

I have spent most of the day helping Mr FH to wean lambs from their mums. I hate doing this and hearing the lambs calling for their mum is so sad. After we weaned them we walked 640 ewes the 12 kms along the main road from one farm to another. This takes quite some time, as you can imagine. Luckily today we only had one car come along but sometimes it could be up to 20 cars!!! After we finished this I drove our farm ute and loaded it with some wood as we will still be having cold weather for a while yet. Finally, when I had finished that I came home and set a small tray just for me. The house was quite gloomy as it was such a cloudy day so you can see I have the lamp on. This spreads such a lovely light on the tea tray.  I had some gardening books I wanted to have a look through so I used my pretty floral mug and a pansy tray and matching napkin. Just right for tea for me!!

Bridal Expo

Last Thursday afternoon I made a quick trip to the city……I had just returned from Melbourne on Monday, worked Wednesday then filled my car with fuel and I was off again. (The city is 300 kms from the farm house so it’s not really just a short drive!!) I was going to join my son, his fiancé and her mother to attend a Bridal Expo which was being held at the yacht club where we have booked their wedding. We had the opportunity to taste wine and champagnes from four different wineries and also do a taste test of all the food available. We were able to make our choices from the yummy food we sampled. The tables had all been set with wonderful flower arrangements by various florists just for the night. As you will see, the styles are just so varied, all gorgeous but all a little different. We had such a lovely evening…we are all so excited and can hardly wait for the 7th of March to arrive!!

I’m sorry some of these photos are a little blurry but I quickly snapped them with my phone before too many other ‘guests’ arrived. I really love the tall autumn display – it was very tall and really spectacular. I think we are heading more towards white flowers which I’m sure will be just perfect! I do have a bit of a dilemma though….my future daughter-in-law has invited me to come look at her wedding dress but I’m not sure that I want to see it before the ‘big day’!! She thinks I’m crazy waiting for the wedding day but as yet I’m still undecided. Over the next few months I’ll make my decision.  I was so thrilled she has included me with all the planning and sharing her wedding dress with me.
