SSS

After spending 4 days sorting through all the stuff my kids had accumulated at our unit over the last 13 years I have decided I need to keep telling myself…simple, simple, simple. That’s how I need to get my life under control. If I thought there was a lot of cr.. stuff in our unit I can only begin to imagine how much is in the farmhouse after 36 years!!! I am trying to sort through cupboards and drawers and reduce the amount of possessions I have.  Tablescapes will now be set with only dinnerware I have on hand, I will not buy new things (well, maybe just a few) and most important I will reduce my weight by walking and exercising more. Sounds simple, doesn’t it!!!  Well, here’s the start of things to come. My simple, simple table. I set this little Easter morning tea table to share with my 4 grandies.  The table is very rustic (I think that’s what the real estate agents would call it but really I think it is just old!).  Actually I think the whole garden looks a little ‘rustic’ after our long hot summer but today I spent about 4 hours trying to get rid of some weeds.  It looks a little better already.  I am really enjoying our lovely autumn weather at the moment.

It’s so hard to believe Easter is right on our door step – where is this year going?

Moving into Ikea!

I think I might move  house…….I have found a ‘little house’ which is just me. Even my daughter thought so. After days of shifting furniture, scrubbing and painting I was really ready for a little retail therapy so DNo 1 and I decided to have a look at Ikea on Thursday morning. Lunch was not really very exciting but there were so many inspirational displays that made up for it. This little area was just made for me, I am sure. I think you will agree it’s very cute.

I just love this mix of taupe, pink and white.  I could live in a house with just those colours!!  Our beachhouse is not a house that could be comfortable with that colour palette. Isn’t it funny how some things just don’t go. It’s ok though, I’ll just go to Ikea to get my fix!! My two beautiful daughters had organised a surprise for me on Thursday afternoon and had booked me in to have a full body massage. It was wonderful….we had the first real rain for months and it was so relaxing listening to that while I had my massage. What a wonderful way to recharge my batteries!

Pink champagne

Just a very quick post today. I have been busy cleaning and painting our unit ready for the tenants to move in at the weekend so I’m a little tired tonight. Life has been very hectic this last week!!! I have a few snaps of the engagement party to share with you. It ended up being a very warm and steamy evening – so much better than the storms that were forecast all week.

Drama filled day!!

We had the most beautiful engagement party on Saturday night for our son and his fiance and I have some lovely pictures to share which I thought would happen today but no……..drama instead! Our son has been living in our city unit for the last 9 years (and his fiance for 2 years) and after buying his own home, today they finally moved out. We started shifting them in yesterday and all was going well today…. well, that is except for the downpour (first day of rain for about 6 months!!)  which happened as we were about to load furniture but that was ok, little did we know there was worse to come. Mr FH had helped us shift then had headed back to the farm so we loaded lots of leftovers into our cars and were just starting to get unpacked and find homes for everything (we had been there all of 3 hours) when my son turned one the kitchen sink tap and a cap on a water heater pipe (inside the wall) came off and flooded the laundry and bathroom. It was steaming hot water which was going everywhere and as you can imagine we didn’t know where the water main was so we had trouble stopping it. The water was coming out at the bottom of the wall and the wall was looking like it was going to cave in!!!! Finally we managed to find an outside tap to stop the water and find an emergency plumber who came to our rescue. After a bill of $140 (I really thought it might be more) and a gaping hole in the laundry wall we had things sorted.

Tomorrow we are spending the day cleaning our unit ready for tenants to move in and then tackle this repair job! Hopefully I will have time to write the post I planned for today!

Getting rid of dust bunnies!!

As our long hot summer is drawing to a close I have been busy trying to get rid of some of the dust that seems to be coating everything. In fact I’m beginning to think this whole house is joined together with one big cobweb. It just makes me feel so settled to have my beautiful china sparkling clean. Cushions and curtains have been laundered and floors and windows washed in my sunroom.  One room done and lots more to start on!!

I’m planning on starting out in the garden as soon as the weather cools a little more. We had such a busy weekend…..after 13 years we will have none of our kids living in our city unit so on Friday we travelled to the city to complete some maintenance before our tenants move in. I must admit I do feel a little sad that we won’t have that as our base. We do have two of our kids we can always stay with or our beach house is only one hour away. In fact after we had the quick cleanup we stayed with our daughter and her family for a night then we drove to the beach house. We are now home at the farmhouse so that makes it 4 different beds in 4 nights!!! Talk about crazy!
Have a lovely week!!
