MIA

I have been MIA a little lately but hopefully that is now all behind me!! I have been studying for another certificate for my job at school and have submitted a 220 question self assessment and then a 110 page portfolio to show that I am eligible for the Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) programme. Well, today I had my final assessment done – a lecturer to watch me work in the classroom and 37 pages of questions on areas they weren’t sure I had completed! I had started to doubt myself last week when I received the questions I would be asked today and some of them were totally beyond me. Yesterday we discovered that as I had 2 units with no prior learning in I needed to bring in 2 new units which we did about 6 months ago only to realise they were units for a Diploma!!! No wonder I was starting to doubt my ability!!  Thankfully I passed it all except I need to submit one more exercise (not a whole unit) to my lecturer over the next week or so and then it is done!!! Yippee!
Of course now I’m thinking maybe I should build on those 2 Diploma units and go study some more to go with it…….I think for the moment I’ll put that on the back burner and enjoy the Christmas season. I did have a little down time on the weekend…along with my two daughters we took my four beautiful little grandies to see The Wiggles. What a fun time, they just loved it. Typically the boys were star struck and wouldn’t dance but my darling little 2 year old granddaughter danced like you wouldn’t believe. Such a lovely family day.
Here on the farm today it has been a shocking day – another harvest ban due to fire risk and rain (which at this time of year is not welcome!) so I thought a nice bright summery table was the way to go. I know you are all starting to feel the cold creeping in – one day, I promise myself I’m going to have a white Christmas!

Tomorrow I have a day at home so I’m just about to bring out the Christmas decorations – yes, I know a lot of people have finished but I usually don’t do mine until 1st December.

Summer at the farm house

Do you ever have a block and can’t think of a new table colour combination?? I was like that this week. It’s funny as soon as I start to see some of the inspiring tables around blogland I think ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’ So this week’s table came about when I was outside gardening and saw this lovely creeper starting to flower. I matched it up with some ‘earthy’ colours for the table runner and plates and of course I had to add the essential white tableware.

Summer has really hit hard here at the farm house. We had a total fire ban yesterday with very dangerous conditions. And I had a 4ft snake in my chicken house!! This is why I like being at the beachhouse during the summer!!

The Queen of Tizz!

Recently I was working at my sister’s gift shop and a shopper (a lady I knew) called  me  the Queen of Tizz!  How funny is that!? My kids thought it was so me and I have to admit I would spend all days tizzing around if only I could.  Such a shame I (and all of you!!) have to do all the mundane things around the house too! We were unpacking a HUGE amount of Christmas decorations ready to display. This year my sister has really gone in two directions….the classic silver, pinks and greens and also a line of gorgeous brightly coloured tin decorations so that called for two very different tables. The classic was easy..I just gathered up all the gorgeous clear glass containers and filled them all with decorations. They make such a great display just like that. We did have a slight problem though, we had overloaded the tree and it toppled over! I was leaning down nearby and too frightened to lift my head. Luckily we only broke 3 baubles hanging on the tree and no damage to all the gorgeous glassware!
The other table is a very rustic table with natural wreaths, a red burlap cloth, vintage tin truck and rustic Christmas sign. I had Mr FH help me find a branch which was about the same size all along and he kindly (!!) sliced off 9 slices which I took and stencilled them to spell out Christmas. They looked a little bright and new so after I’d finished stencilling I found some nugget and a brush and dirtied them up a little. They still weren’t quite right so I tied some red and gold ribbon (I really wanted tartan but couldn’t find any!) around them and stood them on their side on the table. My sister has had a few customers wanting to buy them!!
Every year I vow I’m not buying any more decorations for Christmas but every year I weaken!! I guess this year will be no different!

Diamonds are a girls best friend!

IMG_3535a
Yes, we have an engagement in the family!!! Son No 1 (actually the one and only!!) has finally proposed to his long time girlfriend and we are all very excited. No, this is not her engagement ring!! I was just setting a simple table for two in our living room when I came across these napkin rings so just for the fun of it I used these today. I have been doing a bit of revamping in our living room over the last couple of weeks but I am not finished yet so can’t give you a full tour so thought I would just give you a peek! You know the type of redecorating exercise where you don’t want to paint, can’t afford new furniture ( actually anything new!!) but you want a new look. Well, that’s what I wanted for the start of summer. It’s looking quite nice at this stage so I’ll share it with you shortly.

We have also bought a house with our son which they will be moving into in February. It is a cute little cottage which we have big plans for so I will share the journey when we start that. Exciting times around here if it wasn’t for the down turn in agriculture!!

Frosty table

I haven’t had a lot of time to prepare a tablescape over the last couple of weeks so today I am sharing a really different table I set.  This was a table display I did for work……a display of books I set up in the library for the students at our school. The students were learning all about Arctic Lands so this is what I came up with! I love preparing displays for the students…..I would do them all the time if I didn’t have so many other things to do!
