Greeting the morning

Yesterday I went to work for my sister at her gift shop. Lots of new things to display and lots of cleaning and tidying to do. I haven’t been there for a couple of weeks as family matters have been more important. As I sent off early yesterday morning (I have to travel 80kms to get there!!) the sun was just coming up and the ground was covered with a slight frost. Things really are starting to get a little cold here in the mornings!! As I was driving along I looked up and saw a beautiful sight in the sky. You see, we live on the flight pass for planes flying to the eastern states of Australia. It’s funny, we have to drive for 3 hours to catch a flight that comes straight back over our house!! Can’t see why they can’t just pick us up on the way!! Anyway, I had the pleasure of seeing 5 planes making their way from one side of Australia to the other. Pretty awesome I thought!

The top two planes are going from Western Australia to the eastern states. The next two are coming from the eastern states to Western Australia and I’m not sure about the bottom jet stream as it was fading away fast. Sorry about the finger print on the camera lens….probably one of my grandies!!

Relaxing at the beachhouse

I am back today after a very long week. My dear old father-in-law sadly passed away last week. He didn’t quite reach 90 years of age – funny how you think you are ready for these things but really we never are……
I have some photos of our new outdoor furniture (at the beachhouse) to share with you…I have had the table since we bought the house two years ago but have been waiting to purchase some chairs to match to finish off the area. Finally I have found what I wanted – I had lots of problems finding the same colour match but I’m really pleased how they have all come together.
As we are coming into winter we have had to move our white poolside chairs and table under cover. I purchased enough cushions to have some to use on these chairs to bring everything together. So after a little bit of rearranging I’m happy with the final look. I have included on one of the photos the position of the kitchen, living room and dining room which is all open plan so you can hopefully get the idea. Our big sliding doors open right up so we have one big entertaining area. Just perfect for the summer!!

I still have to add some lovely pots and bits and pieces but I feel it is getting more and more like home. I spent about 2 hrs just lying out here yesterday morning in the dappled sunshine just thinking about the last week. Very restful…and just what I needed!!

I’ll be back

Hello, Just dropping by to let you know I might be gone for a few days. We have had a death in the family so life is a little hectic at the moment. Please don’t go away….I’ll be back in a few days.

Mother’s Day

I don’t think I ever really appreciated my mum until I was a mum myself. I certainly never realised how hard she worked, how much she gave up and just how much she did for me but most of all how much she loved me. I am thankful for her love and guidance every day and Mother’s Day is the perfect time to show just how much she means to me….. A table set for two seemed just perfect. I don’t think I will see any of my kids on Mother’s Day (I have spent a lot of time with them lately) but I’m sure they will be thinking of me…I hope so anyway!! LOL
I started out thinking that pansies would be just right for this table but by the time I finished there was not a pansy in sight. How does this happen??? I did stick with the purple theme though but decided to team it with pale blue for a different look.

Soup and sunshine

Tablescaping time again!! How fast are the weeks just flying by…..our season is definitely changing very fast. The mornings are getting a little crisp but by afternoon the sun has warmed things up a little.
The sun was streaming in through the window on Monday so I set a table ready for a lunch for two – soup bowls ready for something to warm our tummies and lovely bright colours to hang onto the last of summer.
I had bought these placemats quite a while ago. They came in two different colours (you can see the other table here) so I purchased both. I haven’t used these blue/green ones much yet but I did pick up these lovely water glasses at Red Dot (similar to Dollar Tree, I think) hoping they would go with the placemats and I was thrilled to see they were a perfect match.
The spotted plates are a new purchase (I’d been watching them for ages and finally they were on sale!!) and also the white lattice plates. They were a real steal – $15 for 12 pieces!! Just love that!  I can’t believe the flatware was such a perfect match too!!

Seasonal Sunday

Before Easter I had been looking for some small white eggs to ModPodge some tissue paper onto and I could only find these brown paper ones. I had ideas to paint these white then cover them but thankfully I didn’t get it done (surprise!!surprise!!).
I had seem some stamped with small black letters but I didn’t have any stamps that small but did find some rub-ons in my scrapbooking stash so I used them. Super easy and super quick and I love them.
I needed to change my tabletop display in my familyroom and as we are coming into autumn here in Australia I was looking for a more natural look. Not easy in a pink and green Shabby chic room but I think they fit in perfectly.

Fancypants Dinner

I had a great time on the weekend…we went to the beach house again (probably the last time for a while….) and had our eldest daughter and her husband and two gorgeous boys come for a couple of nights. I had been to Perth to watch Mary Poppins at the theatre (just fabulous!!) and do a little shopping on Friday.
My niece had asked me to set a table for her monthly dinner group called Fancypants. What a great name!! They meet once a month – every second month is at a restaurant and the other month at a member’s home.
This month was C’s turn. She is living in my sister’s townhouse at the moment which sits right on the water so I felt a beachy look was the way to go. The dining table is white washed and beachy looking so that part was really easy.
I used her flatware and white china and added my soft blue napkins. The large blue bowl in the centre was hers but I added my white cake stand and topped it with candles. We layered the table – white cloth, taupe runner and woven mats that were all in her cupboard. I just added the jute around the candles and also the flatware.
I think the table looks just fabulous with the gorgeous wall print behind. Reports are they all had a great time.
